In two weeks I have manage to rack up 100 hours at Ocotillo Golf Resort. They are sure getting their money's worth--if I was a paid intern. Although the original pay rate would have been nice, you cannot be a price tag on experience.
Between my part-time job, internship and schooling, my social life has seemed to have dwindled. I keep telling myself I have only 3 more months to go. Now don't get me wrong, I am extremely happy about my position. I do not take this experience for granted. I'm working with a great company that really takes care of their employees. Hey, you can't go wrong with $2.00 employee meals at Bernard's (http://www.ocotillogolf.com/Bernards-Restaurant_0bfd8c283417.html).
I never thought I'd be learning and actually doing wedding planning. At first I was overwhelmed with all the little details going into a wedding, but I have started to get used to it. I was even able to pull off 5 tours this past Saturday! It was nuts but it was awesome. The information about our facilities and wedding packages rolled easily off my tongue. I even recieved some nice compliments from the guests. This past weekend I also learned how to write and complete a BEO (Banquet Event Order), create facility and ceremony layouts, invoicing and much, much more that goes into planning a successful wedding. Oh I have also learned that our guests come from all walks of life and it saddens me to see some future brides putting down their future husbands. Got to love that ball and chain!

Completely there with you... focusing on the internship, class, and not having a social life. I also am doing an unpaid internship (free food as well, plus my housing since I live on the military base).
ReplyDeleteI think that it is so cool you have been able to actually do the wedding planning rather than just simply assisting or being the gopher type of intern. How hard do you feel it's been?
Friend, I don't know how you are managing school, internship, AND another job! That's crazy talk. Just my Internship and two classes are kicking my butt! But, it sounds like you are having a great experience.
ReplyDeleteI really like giving tours at Foothills. I think it's fun to get to 'show off' the facility and I learn a lot, too! Often times, people ask me questions to which I do not know the answer so I have to track it down. Good times!
Hang in there! You're right...only a few more months and we're bustin out of this joint! :)
Giving tours has got to be one of the best parts of the job because you get to know everything about the place where you are working and build good guest relation skills.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you are getting in the groove with your wedding planning stuff because that can be a very stressful job if you don't learn how to manage it. It's amazing that you're able to do what you are really passionate about especially during an unpaid internship.
